Springfield’s Seventh-Inning Push Ends First National Bank of Johnson Seniors’ Season at Class B State

Springfield’s Seventh-Inning Push Ends First National Bank of Johnson Seniors’ Season at Class B State

Through six innings of state tournament play, the Auburn Seniors, led by pitcher Christian Gage, had kept Springfield off the board to hold a two-run advantage with one inning to play.

A pair of errors combined with some timely hits by Springfield batters would result in Springfield’s first three runs scored, which put Auburn down a run heading into the bottom of the seventh.

Auburn had the tying run on second and the winning run on first base with just one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, but a pair of fly outs would end the game and Auburn’s season with Springfield staying alive in the Class B State Tournament.
