CLARENCE “JUNIOR” DOTY

Clarence “Junior” Doty, age 69, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh, Nebraska.
He was born to Clarence C. Doty Sr. and Marie (Pierce) Doty in Tecumseh, Nebraska. Junior graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1974, where basketball was his favorite sport. Following his graduation, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy from April 18, 1975, until his honorable discharge on April 4, 1979. During his service, he was on the USS California missile ship and had the opportunity to tour many places, including Egypt, Spain and England, where he witnessed the changing of the guards and the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. He also enjoyed playing softball in Puerto Rico.
Junior was first married to Teddie Henrichs, and from this union, they had two children, Christopher and Stephanie. He later married Janet Phillips on December 22, 1994 and together they had two sons, Mikel and Jon.
Junior was an apprentice for Bob Gregory in carpentry and later worked in construction and line clearance with Asplundh Tree Service until health issues forced him to retire. He was an active member of the Tecumseh Jaycees in 1975-1976 and again with the Nebraska Jaycees from 1989-1990, serving as the District Director of Region 5.
In his spare time, Junior loved fishing, hunting, golfing, slow-pitch softball, and attending concerts. He was a dedicated fan of Husker football and volleyball, as well as the Little League World Series baseball, golf and various outdoor shows. In his final months, Junior developed a special fondness and became nearly obsessed with Oreos. He dearly loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s events and cherished every moment spent with family and friends. Junior also had the nicknames “Julio” and “Michalik,” given to him by his nephew Jeremy, after the Iowa State basketball player Julius Michalik.
Junior is survived by his loving wife Janet (Phillips) Doty; his children, Christopher (Kristal) Doty, Stephanie Doty, and Jon Doty; six grandchildren, Payton, Eli, Kaitlyn, Allie, Avery and Madison; two “grand fur-kittens;” as well as many nieces, nephews, bonus children, special friends, and his in-laws, Virginia Schlender, Jim and Paulette Stauffer, Mike Phillips, Lynn Phillips and Pat Packett.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Sr. and Marie Doty, his wife’s parents, Arlie and Ruth Phillips; his infant son Mikel “Scooter” Doty, his brothers, Harold Schlender and George Doty; his sister, Judy Stauffer; and his brotherin-law, Robert Phillips.
