Very few chairs in Brownville’s Village Hall were left open for the special meeting held on Tuesday, December 3 to swear in Paul Fish to the Board of Trustees, as well as to discuss and settle other important matters. The Board, which had consisted of Kim Johnson and Steve Woerth following the 2024 election, could not meet in November due to a lack of a quorum, and Tuesday night’s special meeting was the first time since the election that they could meet.
Following the recall of former Chairman Marty Hayes and Board Member Colleen Volkmer, as well as the resignation of Board Member Carol Furnas, the Village Board was required to wait until December 1 to swear in elected Board Member Paul Fish. Fish was sworn in first thing on Tuesday night, as well as the re-elected Kim Johnson. Following that, the meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance. Carol Woerlen was appointed as the Village’s temporary clerk while they search for a permanent replacement, and time was given for community members to make comments or voice concerns.
Volkmer stood first to inform the Board that she would be holding them accountable as a community member and expected honest and lawful conduct from each of them. She also mentioned a concern with Johnson’s inquiring about a community member’s business, which lay outside of the village limits.
