On Monday, December 16, the Peru City Council met for their regular meeting, at which former Mayor Dave Pease stepped down and Katy Propst-Novak was sworn in. Also sworn in at the meeting were Theresa Westfall, who was re-elected to her position, and Josh Whisler, who was newly-elected to the council.
Prior to the oaths of office being taken, the consent agenda was approved and during City Clerk Traci Riehle’s report, it was noted that Peru’s Deputy Clerk Mary Williams was celebrating one year working with the City. When the council reconvened with its new officers and mayor, Council Member Westfall was nominated and elected as the Council President. A slate of annual appointments was approved, as well as the addition of Angelo and Louie Ligouri as Deputy City Attorneys in the case that the current attorney, Morgan Ritchie, was absent.
Mayor Propst-Novak then moved on to the appointments of the standing commissions and committees, during which she mentioned that there were vacancies on each of the thirteen different groups. She urged community members hoping to find a way to become more involved with the city to consider joining one or more of the committees. The City-recognized holidays for 2025 were approved and the council then made a public notice for the single vacancy on the council.
