NSAA board members also voted to separate girls wrestling into two classes for the 2024-2025 season. The Auburn girls wrestling team, who sent freshman Gretchen Paschal to the state meet this past winter, will compete in Class B in the program’s third year.
The board also voted to increase Classes A and B by a total of five schools next school year. With the addition of five new schools in the past two years, both classes will grow from 60 to 65 schools in 2024-2025. The change will affect basketball in the state with C1 schools Nebraska City, Omaha Gross, Aurora, Douglas County West and Wahoo all moving up to class B in boys basketball, while Lincoln Standing Bear, Omaha Gross, Aurora, Sidney and Platteview will all move up in girls basketball as well as volleyball.
Another change coming to basketball is the addition of the shot clock in all classes for boys and girls next winter. Classes C1 and C2 will also see a change in the number of subdistricts from 12 to 10 for both basketball and volleyball. Subdistricts will now be based on a serpentine assignment based on NSAA point standings. Softball in Class C will also follow the same serpentine assignment method.
