It’s that time of the year again when we as chapter members get to enjoy the work put forth throughout the year! The money raised and hours spent organizing fundraisers all comes full circle in December when the annual Mentor Hunt arrives. The Nemaha Valley Pheasants Forever/ Quail Forever chapter has been promoting youth education for several decades thanks to all the members before us. We are able to continue the chapter with many current members, volunteers and sponsors.
Hunting isn’t just about hoping to bag a rooster pheasant or tagging a deer, but understanding the greater meaning and making memories for years to come. Conservation is the protection preservation, management or restoration of natural environments and the communities that inhabit them. This includes not just animals, but also soil, water, air and plants. Being a part of this chapter helps us not only educate others but show them what conservation really looks like. We do this through projects and demonstrations.
On December 14, 2024 the chapter held its annual Mentor Hunt at the farm of Jared and Rachel Meiergerd just Northwest of the Auburn area. The event is a great day full of activities and a great learning experience for all. The day began with doughnuts and hot chocolate while youth hunters arrived and signing in with the help from Sydney Reeves and Justin Carmona. They were handed new hunting vests, orange stocking hats, ball caps, shooting glasses and hearing protection. Everything that was handed out is donated by the Game and Parks and the chapter.
