2024 Nemaha County Herald Year in Review

As the new year is ushered in, it’s important to remember what happened leading up to the changing calendars. As we do every year, The Nemaha County Herald looked back on the past twelve months and has selected a number of significant events to remind readers of what all took place in 2024. The 2024 Year in Review will be published in quarters, three months at a time over four issues.

January Noteworthy

The Tuesday, May 14 primary election will be the first in Nebraska under the state’s new voter identification (ID) regulation. Thursday, June 1, 2023, Gov. Jim Pillen signed into law LB514, which establishes voter ID requirements for elections in the Cornhusker State. All special and statewide elections after this date will require voter ID. No special election before May 14 will require voter ID. Under the new law, registered voters must present a valid photo ID for their vote to count. Nebraskans can use any of the following IDs to cast their ballots: Nebraska driver’s license or state ID, Nebraska college or university ID, public or private, Nebraska political subdivision ID, including state, county, city or village and public school ID, Passport, Military ID, Tribal ID, Hospital, assisted living facility, care center or any other skilled care facility record.
