The Auburn City Council introduced an ordinance in limiting the use of all-terrain vehicles, or ATVs, in city limits during their Monday, February 10 regular meeting.
The proposed ordinance would amend a section of city code to prohibit ATVs from being operated on streets, highways, and alley ways in the city. The ordinance lists exceptions for ATVs used and equipped for snow removal, lawn care, and parades as authorized as well as operation by law enforcement, fire and rescue, and board of public works and city employees for official duty.
Upon questioning from Auburn resident Larry Draper, Mayor Chris Erickson voiced his opinion that ATVs don’t have a purpose on the streets of Auburn other than snow removal and that utility-type vehicles, or UTVs, and golf carts are much safer.
