According to Auburn’s Board of Public Works (BPW) General Manager Ray Luhring, the progress being made on the Westgate Redevelopment project is keeping with schedule with around 70 percent of the dirt work being complete.
“We had those few really cold days earlier this month and not a lot could be done during that time,” Luhring said, “But this nicer weather is allowing the contractors to keep on track.” It was also mentioned that all of the sanitary sewer work is done on the east side of the area, and the crews are working on the west side currently. When that is finished, the rest of the water utilities will be installed.
BPW is expecting to begin work on installing electrical infrastructure in April or May and believes that communication companies like Pinpoint and Spectrum will work alongside to install their fiber optic cables. Following the BPW’s installations, the concrete for the development’s roads will be poured. Luhring also mentioned the installation of natural gas utilities, but is not sure if those will be placed prior to the pouring of the roads or after.
