With spring fever setting in, it is a good time to remind customers that the City’s of Auburn and Peru remain in a water emergency status. The lack of snow and rainfall resulting in drought conditions for the Board of Public Works (BPW) service area continues to hinder our water sources recharge. The Water department at the Auburn Board of Public Works maintains in vigilant watch over resources and has been able to maintain reservoir levels by slowing the pumping amounts and ensuring leaks are located and repaired rapidly. BPW monitors daily pumping amounts, which confirms that customers are contributing to the ability of maintaining these levels by limiting personal usage. While the well levels have risen steadily, we are still not able to move into Stage 2 drought contingency protocol where restrictions are less aggressive. To ensure that we do not find ourselves in a position of having to truck water , we currently deny water access to outside contractors. Trucking water from outside sources for these jobs allows us to manage levels and keep resources for our customers. BPW will continue to enforce Stage 3 drought contingency protocol which includes non-essential use of water. The goal is to keep from having to truck water in which would result in costly expenses to the water department.
The following restrictions remain in place until water levels return to Stage 2 drought contingency status:
• Pools - No pools will be filled with the exception of the City municipal pool, which will be available for summer recreational activities if the reservoir levels remain stable.
