Several have asked so let me explain briefly for any who might wonder.
My background as the Son of a decorated WWII Marine and an American History teacher myself has red, white and blue corpuscles running through my veins. It has grieved me personally to see so much indifference about our history and the unique place we have and should still play in the world.
Yes, Yes, I concede to all the naysayers that we have many warts in our history because some people have not really bought into the teachings of Jesus and our own Founding Fathers values and ideals. But that does not negate the duplicating of so many of our written principles and even the Constitution by other countries. Nor the reforms by our insistence on democracy and the treatment of every individual, commonly called “human rights.” There are still injustices because there are still greedy and selfish people, but we take so many things for granted that are relatively new in the world or still not the norm many places: Provision for people with handicaps, equality for all ethnicities, many protections for women and children, treatment of prisoners, Social Security for elderly and handicapped, free education, opportunities available to all to start and run your own business or work where you want, etc. In regard to the anti American atmosphere that is so publicized today - Not to be “in your face” about it but a simple observation of our border problem says a great deal. Which way are the immigrants going? There does not seem to be a problem with too many Americans leaving, and some who promised to leave if Trump was elected have backed down.
