Matt Mason, Nebraska state poet, read to Brownville area residents Sunday, April 7 while continuing his quest to visit every county in the state during his tenure.
“I love Brownville. It’s been a while since I’ve read here,” the writer told an audience at the Schoolhouse Art Gallery and Nature Center.
Mason noted he has 10 counties remaining, including Pawnee. Recently, the poet had a two week residency at the Kimmel Harding Nelson (KHN) Center for the Arts in Nebraska City. He called the facility “a great place for artists.” While at KHN, Mason wrote one poem, All Those Feathered Divas. The writer recalled commissioned poems are stressful, “but they pull me out of my normal writing. I love the research part,” he related.
