Registration is underway for annual youth tractor and equipment safety training courses.
The closest instruction will be Thursday and Friday, May 30 and 31 at the Cass County Fairgrounds, 8400 144th St. near Weeping Water. Contact the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) College of Public Health at 402559-4960 about signing up.
The first day will cover the required elements of the National Safe Tractor and Machinery Operation Program. It includes quizzes that students must pass to attend the driving portion of the training. The second day will include a driving test, equipment operation and all-terrain vehicle (ATV) safety lessons. Students must demonstrate competence in hitching and unhitching equipment and driving a tractor and trailer through a standardized course. The twoday course will include lessons on emergency first aid, personal protective equipment use, ATV/ utility task vehicle safety and livestock handling.
