Auburn High School Teacher Earns Olympic Tryout

With the 2024 Paris Olympics just a couple of months away, some of the best athletes made their case to represent the United States at Olympic tryouts. One of those athletes was Auburn High School teacher Trey Bardsley.

After a successful basketball career at Nebraska Wesleyan University and a stint as a member of the Washington Generals opposite the world famous Harlem Globetrotters, Bardsley was introduced to the growing game of 3x3 basketball, a fast paced, half-court offshoot of traditional basketball. In 2020, 3x3 debuted as an Olympic sport during the Tokyo Summer Olympics, but the United States failed to qualify. This year, the U.S. is one of four automatic qualifiers.

To select the Olympic team, a three day training camp featuring 16 of the most proven 3x3 players was put on in Colorado Springs, Colorado February 16-18. One of those players was Bardsley. The pool also included four other players from Bardsley’s 3BallOmaha team, which has solidified itself as one of the top teams in America, being ranked #2 in the U.S. and #15 in the world.
