AHS Class of 2024 Encouraged to Make ‘Amazing Mistakes’ During May 12 Commencement

In the early afternoon of Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12, Auburn Public Schools Superintendent Dave Patton accepted 61 students as the Auburn High School graduating class of 2024.

At the direction of Ben Hanika, junior members of the AHS band played music as graduates took their seats. Senior Student Council representative Lucy Hayes welcomed her fellow graduates and the crowd in attendance to open the ceremony.

Next, AHS principal Scott Siegel presented the class co-valedictorians Maverick Binder and Madelyn Jones, both of which gave speeches to their classmates. Binder compared his 2024 classmates’ high school careers to an expiring score clock, recounting four years of achievements in sports, school formals, and anxiety surrounding challenging classes and projects.
