Tensions Surrounding Village Clerk Rise at Brownville Board Meeting

Due to the upcoming election, Brownville’s monthly Board of Trustees meeting took place a week early this month, beginning at 6pm on Tuesday, May 7.

Following the approval of the agenda and previous meeting minutes, the board opened the floor up for general public comment, an agenda item that hasn’t been seen for many meetings. The first was Kay Fish. Fish questioned many choices the board has made, including the removal of the books used for the public library box and the flower pots tended by Kay and her husband Paul throughout Brownville.

Shane Sailors spoke on the desire of the people to remain with the Board of Public Works for their water billing, as well as her disapproval of the phone and internet installed in the village’s maintenance building. She also insisted that the board stop treating clerk Kristy Mertes so poorly, and that they stop dragging out Steve Woerth’s offer to replace and install new visitor signs around the village.
