Memorial Day is not a celebration, Al Armstrong related Monday morning, May 27 at Legion Memorial Park.
“It is a day of solemn remembrance to those who have ensured our freedom,” the commander of Auburn American Legion Post 23 noted at the observance at the park’s bandstand.
Armstrong stated on the last Monday in May Americans honor more than one million of their fellow citizens who made the ultimate sacrifice. Each one has a unique story, which represented heartbreak to the families and friends they have left behind, he said.
