Pillen Recommends Contacting Senators To Support Property Tax Reform At Auburn Town Hall

Nebraskans want the property tax issue resolved.

Gov. Jim Pillen addressed it Friday afternoon, June 14 to more than 30 Auburn area residents at Arbor Manor. He has been traveling the state seeking statewide support to address property taxes in advance of a special Unicameral session Pillen has pledged to call this summer. The governor hopes to accomplish it before school starts. The targeted time frame is Friday, July 26 through Thursday, Aug. 15.

“We’re working hard to have a plan which will be transformative. We’re working hard to get 33 votes (needed for approval.) I’m optimistic it can get accomplished. I’m in awe of the impact of special interest groups. I will work harder with the Legislature to make sure we’re on the same page. I believe in a broad tax base and fair taxation across the board. Government is supposed to keep us safe, have an impact on infrastructure and to educate our children. We’re working on everything to be fair and reasonable. It may not be perfect but we have the mechanism to take care of kindergarten through 12th grade education funding. We need to solve the issue long term,” Pillen stated.
