Located at 620 5th St. in Peru is Brenda Wemhoff’s new business, Plum Crazy Lady Boutique and Coffee. While coffee and smoothies and a wide variety of clothes are offered at the store, Brenda hopes to see the location become a gathering space more than anything.
Having bought the building in August of 2023, Brenda and her husband Phil had a big project in front of them. They replaced all of the water damaged floors, tore the plaster off the brick walls and even erected new walls to section off the space Brenda uses for her clothing racks and dressing rooms. All this work was done in less than a year, and Brenda opened her doors for business the week before Peru’s Old Man River Days.
On those clothing racks, Brenda offers a variety of women’s clothes, with summer fashion displayed most prominently at the moment. She also sells a number of men’s shirts, as well as jewelry and hats that she creates and decorates herself. While Plum Crazy Lady doesn’t sell any clothes created by local sources at this time, she hasn’t dismissed the idea and may incorporate those goods in the future.
