The Brownville Village Board of Trustees met for their regular meeting on Tuesday, July 16. Among other agenda items, village clerk Kristy Mertes was fired, despite the lack of access to essential tools she needed to do her job efficiently.
Along with Steven Mossman, the board’s hired lawyer, only Chairman Marty Hayes, board member Colleen Volkmer and board member Kim Johnson were present for the meeting. Following the approval of the agenda and the minutes from the previous meeting, the floor was opened for public comment.
Park superintendent Terry Vice spoke first to address what everyone saw as they walked into the room. Five buckets of red paint had been set along the Village Board’s tables, with paint brushes to go with them. Vice explained that the paint had been found tucked away in the maintenance building, and not returned for cash, as Vice pointed out someone had said in the previous meeting.
