Ferris Wheel, Funnel Cakes and Farm Animals; Fair Wraps Up Summer in Nemaha County

Ferris Wheel, Funnel Cakes and Farm Animals; Fair Wraps Up Summer in Nemaha County

Representatives of Nebraska Extension-Nemaha County and the Nemaha County Agricultural Society noted the 2024 Nemaha County Fair was successful because of various factors.

“It was a good and successful fair. We had great weather, great volunteers and great attitudes. I just want to thank the volunteers for giving up their time to help the Nemaha County 4-H youth have a fun and successful fair and the Nemaha County Agricultural Society for getting the facilities ready and being there to make sure things ran smoothly. I saw so many families helping each other and giving above and beyond what was asked. We had several new families showing animals and bringing static entries and it seemed like they had great first years and the kids are excited for next year already. Thanks also to the community for coming out and seeing the youths’ projects and giving them the community support. Monday night of the fair is always a fun night because it is the busiest in the barns and 4-H Building. It’s fun to see the 4-H kids stand by their projects and tell those walking by about their animals or their static project. Since I was young the county fair has always been one of my favorite times of the year and even though it is a stressful week I’m always a bit sad when it is over,” stated Sheena Davidson, 4-H Extension assistant. Maxine Schatz, Agricultural Society member and open class coordinator, noted there were a little more than 300 open class entries displayed in the 4-H Building. She continued there was a good showing of open class livestock. “The entertainment on Monday night (the Fun Pianos) was well received and enjoyed by all ages. Tuesday night (Eric Reamer, magician) wowed the crowd with his show. I heard many people saying ‘How did he do that?’ Mind boggling and great shows. We had 70 youths ages 4 through 12 participate in the Little Tuggers tractor pull. A great crowd showed up. The weather was just wonderful. We couldn’t asked for better, until Wednesday afternoon as the storm was coming,” Schatz noted.

“The commercial vendors enjoyed the cooler weather as we had the large door opened all the time and they could see and hear the sounds of the fair,” she concluded.
