Wednesday morning, Aug. 21, the Auburn Board of Public Works (BPW) allowed a $46,442 alternate bid from Kerns Excavating Company of Plattsmouth. It covers replacing two aeration basin valves at the wastewater treatment plant.
Ray Luhring, BPW interim general manager, recommended replacing both valves at once to get the work out of the way. He continued Kerns staff asked a lot of questions about the work. Luhring noted Chris Miller of Miller & Associates Consulting Engineers had not worked previously with Kerns. However, the interim general manager continued BPW has previously worked with Kerns.
Substantial completion is anticipated in mid-September with final completion two weeks after that. Luhring and Chair Chuck Knipe stated it would be money well spent.
