On Friday, August 16th, the Calvert Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) hosted a color run to raise money for classrooms and students during the 2024-2025 school year. Jenna Henrichs, one of the lead organizers of the event, was extremely impressed with the turn out, tallying around 160 people who signed up to run.
Being the first ever color run that the Calvert PTO has put on, Henrichs noted that “the community support has been great.” That support came in the form of sponsorship from Subway, Good Samaritan, Glenn’s Corner Market and other businesses to provide supper and snacks for the runners, as well as a number of businesses that manned the color-checkpoints along the running trail, and MerzInk, who supplied the white T-shirts.
Henrichs also explained that the money raised, coming from a $10 registration fee as well as from free-will donations, will go towards helping students and teachers, paying for snacks and helping fund assemblies, as well as other things that a classroom might need. Henrichs hopes to hold another color run next year, and judging by the success seen at Friday night’s event, it seems likely that a followup will happen. “We’re really excited to kick off the school year and incredibly grateful for the support shown from the community and parents alike.”
