Auburn Cross Country Girls Break Through For State Title
THE CLASS C1 State Championship runners hold up their first place trophy in celebration (ABOVE). ALIVIA THOMAS battles runners on either side of her during the race at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

After two consecutive years of coming in second place, the Auburn girls cross country persevered to secure the Class C state championship trophy. A majority of the state championship team members experienced falling one spot short of a state title the last two years including Liston Crotty, who has been the team’s top runner at state in each of her first three high school cross country seasons, placing in the top 10 at state each year. The Nebraska Coaches Association All-star runner again paced the Bulldogs with a fifth place finish with a time of 20:10.5, third among runners competing for the team title.

Four seconds behind her was Olivia Crotty, who earned a top 10 finish in her freshman season in 6th, fourth amongst team runners.

The final four Auburn girls runners finished in the 40’s, including senior Kristen Billings and freshman Hadley Mazzulla. In the team competition, Billings and Mazzulla finished 28th and 29th to round out Auburn’s winning team score of 64.
