Monday night, Oct. 14, the Auburn Public Schools (APS) Board of Education approved a girls soccer cooperative with Humboldt/Table Rock-Steinauer (HTRS) Public Schools. It will cover the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 seasons.
The vote was 3-1 with James Paschal dissenting. He had an issue with taking opportunities away from Auburn High School student-athletes. Bill Chapin and Ryan Jones were absent from the meeting.
Superintendent David Patton has been authorized to complete necessary documents with HTRS representatives. In June, the school board allowed a two-year baseball cooperative with HTRS. With the addition of baseball, HTRS needed a girls’ sport to fulfill Title IX requirements. Title IX prohibits sex-based discrimination in any school or education program that receives federal funding.
