The Auburn Middle School (AMS) Cross Country team completed its season with the Junior High State Meet in Papillion on October 12th. They had a stellar season with all competitors giving it their best all season. The girls team consisted of Macy DeBuhr, Tinley Dunn, Hailey Janssen, Brindley Mazzulla, Annabelle Mendoza, Cory Neumeister, Zoey Siegel, Grace Snyder, Madeline Vinson and Ainslee Wenzl. The boys ran individually since we only had two competitors and we need four for a team. Ethan Pemberton and Everett Kadavy were our runners for the boys part of the team.

Ethan and Everett worked very hard throughout the year to improve their times and at the East Central Nebraska Conference Cross Country meet Ethan finished in 16th place while Everett followed shortly behind Ethan in 19th. Ethan’s highest placing for the season was 11th place at the Nebraska City Invite and Everett was 14th at the same meet. They both ran as individuals in the State Meet in Papillion competing in the Open Race against 374 runners from all classes across the state of Nebraska. They both ran a time of 13:39, however, Everett narrowly edged out Ethan in a foot race at the end. The both placed in the top half of finishers in 125th and 127th place.

The middle school girls team had plenty of participants who were also competitive throughout the season. Seventh grader Brindley Mazzulla lead the team placing 1st in six out of eight meets. Brindley placed 30th out of 265 runners in the championship division at the state meet. Mazzulla had a total score for the season of 37 points (the lower the score in cross country the better the result). Our second runner for the season was Hailey Janssen. Hailey finished in the top 15 in six out of eight meets. She placed 67th out of 265 girls at the state meeti in the championship division. Hailey’s overall points for the season were only 120. Our third runner was 8th grader Cory Neumeister who had 137 points on the season. Other contributions came from Macy DeBuhr (150 pts), Madeline Vinson (164 pts), Grace Snyder (176 pts), Ainslee Wenzel (267), Annabelle Mendoza, Zoey Siegel and Tinley Dunn.
