On Saturday, Nov. 9, Steve and his wife Teri celebrated 25 years of cleaning carpets, rugs, furniture and other such fabrics with an open house at the Auburn Christian Church Center Family Life Center. There, the Epler’s had a spread of tasty treats and a number of prizes donated from other businesses in Auburn.
Steve explained that he’d began in the carpet cleaning business in Nebraska City, working for a company called Bakers. He worked there for four years before buying the business and rebranding it as Epler’s. Since his start, he’s cleaned all manner of messes made from pets, spills, crime scenes, floods and just about anything else. He’s cleaned carpets and furnitures in both high and low-end homes, and was once offered a job he decided to turn down for worry of damaging the expensive fabric he’d been asked to clean.
His business extends to most of the towns and villages in the area, about a 45-minute drive radius, he explained, and that he tries to stay out of Lincoln and Omaha. In his 25 years, Steve has cleaned for over 2500 unique people and businesses, and estimates that he has done around 10,000 cleaning jobs in that time. “I really enjoy meeting new people and seeing the interesting and unique homes that my job brings me into,” he said, and while he doesn’t believe himself to have another 25 years left in the business, Steve will continue to clean carpets for a good while to come.
