Auburn BPW Suspends Drought Protocol Pertaining to Car Washes

Drought protocol restrictions regarding car washes were suspended Wednesday, Nov. 20 by the Auburn Board of Public Works (BPW).

The vote was 3-0-1. Rich Wilson, who owns Super Suds car wash, abstained. Phil Shaw was absent from the meeting.

Action followed Matt Gulizia of Shell Speedee Mart requesting reevaluating car wash regulations even if only partial opening was allowed. He stated his establishment was the only business to be closed because of drought protocol. Gulizia continued current water use is being reduced because of multiple factors. Those include residents not watering their lawns or washing vehicles and the end of the Cooper Nuclear Station refueling outage. He noted having another business has allowed Gulizia to pay his bills.
