Calvert Elementary School families learned about six species Monday night, March 25 at the school gymnasium.

The school’s PTO sponsored a presentation by Jillian Lenz of Wildlife Encounters during a Family Engagement Night. Lenz brought a kinkajou, an armadillo, a red-tailed boa constrictor, an African gray parrot, an alligator and a kangaroo.

Kinkajou: A member of the raccoon family, Lenz noted it lives in the rain forests of Central and South America. Kinkajous are carnivores which eat mainly fruit, are nocturnal and can live about 20 to 40 years, she continued. Lenz stated they love to eat fresh honey, are solitary but will interact with other creatures.
