LOUIS D. STUKENHOLTZ

1936 - 2024

Louis D. Stukenholtz, age 87 of rural Peru, NE passed away surrounded by his loving family on May 14, 2024 at his home.

Louis Dean Stukenholtz was born on June 1, 1936 in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Rollan F. and Walburga A. (Wirth) Stukenholtz. He grew up and attended school in Nebraska City, graduating with the Class of 1953. He then attended the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. He served in the Nebraska Army Air National Guard.

On November 28, 1956, Louis was united in marriage to Darla M. Herold at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City. She preceded him in death on July 20, 2017.

Louis was a lifelong farmer, a job he dearly loved. He served on the Rural Water District #2 for 40 years and the Sanitation Improvement District (SID) for 24 years. He was the Chairman of SID from 1998 to 2022. He was a member St. Bernard’s Catholic Church near Julian, NE.

He is survived by his children: Randal Stukenholtz of rural Peru, NE, Christy Bish (Brad) of Giltner, NE, James Stukenholtz of rural Peru, NE, Laurie Stukenholtz of rural Brock, NE, Daniel Stukenholtz (Kathy) of rural Brock, NE, Thomas Stukenholtz (Tina) of rural Brock, NE, Amy Kroll (Rob) of rural Peru, NE and Cynthia Monson (B.J.) of rural Brock, NE; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; siblings: Leora Kuwitzky of Seattle, WA, Joan Meyer (Jim) of Avoca, NE and Carl Stukenholtz of Perry, IA; sisters and brothers-in-law: Mary Stukenholtz of Dodge City, KS, Ron Copenhaver of Plattsmouth, NE, Carter Herold (Dorothy) of Nebr. City, NE and Mike Herold (Paula) of Rock Port, MO; other family and friends.

In addition to his wife Darla, Louis was preceded in death by two granddaughters: Abigail Kroll and Emily Bish; his parents and siblings: Rose Nelson (Emil), John Stukenholtz (Rita), Rollan Stukenholtz, Kathleen Stukenholtz, Sr. Jean Stukenholtz and Jean Stukenholtz.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City with Fr. Ron Homes celebrating the Mass. Burial will be at St. Bernard’s Cemetery near Julian, NE at 2:30 p.m.

The family will greet friends at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Monday (5/20) from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Bernard’s Catholic Church or the family’s choice.
