MURIEL (MICKEY) GERICH

1932 - 2024

Our dear mother Muriel (Mickey) Gercich peacefully passed away on May 19, 2024, at the age of 92. Mom was the heart of our family, who was always there when we needed her the most, offering support, wisdom, and most importantly, her unconditional love.

She was a loving friend to many, and a cherished member of her community, offering her gift of kindness and strength. She traveled the country and the world with her husband Don, visiting the Holy Land, Italy, Yugoslavia, Poland and Mexico. She loved the outdoors and travelled the United States extensively in their motorhome, camping in national parks and visiting family and friends on the way. After staying home to raise her four children in San Leandro CA, Mickey began working in the Mervyn’s distribution center offices.

Years later, she and her husband opened one of the first frozen yogurt shops in Fremont CA. Mickey and Don retired to Jackson CA, transforming a five acre parcel into a family vacation “wonderland.”

After Don’s passing in 2010, she moved to Auburn NE and joined her daughter Kathy’s and son-in-law Jim’s community. Once in Auburn, she moved into a beautiful neighborhood and lived on her own, showing the independent spirit that impressed us all. Mickey courageously battled health issues in her final years with grace and dignity.

She passed quietly surrounded by family. Muriel L Gercich was born Muriel L Murphy on February 16th, 1932, in Needles CA. She graduated from Fremont High School in Oakland CA in 1950. She is pre- deceased by husband, Deacon Donald F Gercich and former husband, Ben F Perry, parents Lawrence Murphy, Mabel Westerman (Moody) and stepfather Harry Westerman. She is survived by children Glenn Perry (Charlene) Castro Valley CA, Mitchell Perry ( Julie) Antioch CA, Kathy Florence (Jim) Auburn NE and Sandy Myers (Danny) Durango Co., stepchildren Janet Walker (Ken) San Luis Obispo, Susan Gercich Walnut Creek CA, Lynn Vivit Tracy CA, grandchildren Dan Florence (Jenika), Colene Malaney (John), Gregory Florence, Alex Perry, Dakota Myers, Sage Myers, step grandchildren Skylar Payne , Devon Payne, Brent Walker (Tara) Sarah Miller (Neil) Emily Walker, Lauren Kilbourne, Joshua Bennett, Zachary Vivit, Vanessa Vivit, great grandchildren Declan Malaney, Kellan Malaney, Dylan Malaney, Olerud Florence, step grandchildren Weston and Clayton Walker, Jack and Ada Miller, Kadence Kilbourne Mahler.
