CONNIE RAE (MEHLIN) ROOT

1941-2024

Connie Rae (Mehlin) Root, one of 5 children of Claude and Nora (Clark) Mehlin, was born December 21, 1941, at Humboldt, Nebraska. Connie grew up on a farm outside Humboldt attending school at Bratton Union and graduated in 1959.

After high school, Connie moved to California to live with her sister for 1 year. She then moved to Omaha, Nebraska and began working for Mutual of Omaha as an auditor, a position she held for 10 years.

On March 25, 1972, Connie was united in marriage to Keith R. Root at Humboldt. Keith and Connie moved to Auburn, Nebraska in 1974 to raise their family.

Connie was employed at Cooper Mill in Humboldt as a secretary and also worked for 2 years at Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn. She then worked 10 years at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville as a dosimetry clerk.

Connie was a member of the Auburn Christian Church. She was also in bowling league and a Campfire Leader. She enjoyed sewing, making jewelry and crafting. Connie loved cheering on the Nebraska Cornhusker Women’s Volleyball team.

On Thursday, June 6, 2024, Connie passed away at her home in Auburn, having reached the age of 82 years, 5 months, and 16 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Keith, brothers Merle, Bob (Lola), Don, sister Carol Nanninga, sons Ted and Mike, and sonsin- law Francis Mangnall and Charlie Bean.

Those left to mourn her passing include her children Stephen (Ann) Root of Kansas, Debbie Bean of Auburn, Peggy (Wayne) Lotter of Brownville, Tish (Mike) Sparr of Lincoln, Susan (Shane) Charbonnet of Auburn; daughter-in-law Diane Root of Lincoln; numerous grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Marlene Mehlin of Humboldt, Terrie Mehlin of Florida; brotherin- law Chuck Nanninga of Humboldt; other Burial of ashes will be on a later date at Sheridan Cemetery.

Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to Auburn Rescue Squad or Auburn Volunteer Fire Department.

Services are entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
