Jean was born on April 1, 1943 in Syracuse, NE to Harvey and Lydia (Siefken) Petersen. She graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1961, and then went on to work as a dental assistant in Tecumseh.

On March 2, 1963, Jean was united in marriage to Lonnie Dean Husing. Mar- rying Jean was Lonnie's first priority when he was discharged from the Army in 1962. They made their first home together in Nebraska City where their two children, Kathy and Ryan, were born. After living in Lincoln for several years where Jean worked as a teacher’s aide, she and Lonnie settled their family in Auburn, NE. While in Auburn, Jean worked as a teacher’s aide at Sheridan Elementary and the local newspaper office where she was a receptionist and “social editor.” In 1998, the retired couple moved to Grand Island, NE where Jean worked part-time at the Stuhr Museum as an “historical interpreter.”

Family and friends were very important to Jean. She volunteered for her children’s activities and enjoyed ceramics, crafts, flowers, and traveling. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and active in social clubs, including the Grand Island Newcomers Club where she was an officer. Her greatest treasure was her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Lonnie; children, Kathy (Bill) Towsley of Burley, ID, and Ryan (Mandy) Husing of Yutan, NE; and three granddaughters, Ashley (Cade) Crowell, Abagail, and Alyssa.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Donald and Ronald Petersen.
