WARREN “CORKY” JONES

WARREN “CORKY” JONES

1931 - 2024

Warren “Corky” Jones, one of four children of Oland and Cornelia (Moore) Jones, was born June 15, 1931, at Brownville, Nebraska. He grew up on a farm outside Brownville where he attended school and graduated from Brownville High School. In January 1951, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954 and returned to Brownville to farm.

In October of 1951, Corky was united in marriage to Charlene Cook and had one son, Rick. They later divorced.

In 1962, he married Peggy Leota Huffman and they had two sons, Kevin and Terry, and raised a granddaughter Tawni Rae.

Corky was one of several people who fought to first obtain rural water in the state of Nebraska. He was a member of the Rural School Board and County Commissioner and was a very strong advocate. He was a faithful member and past president of the American AG Movement. Then, when Farm Aid came along, he loved to boast of his friendship with Willie Nelson, and actually talked Willie Nelson into having a concert in Brownville. Corky never missed an American AG meeting or a Farm Aid until his health began to decline. Cork never met a stranger; he was always ready to have a beer and a good time. He loved to dance and play in a band in his younger days. Corky almost always found a way to cheat to win at cards and then lie about it.

On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, Corky passed away at the Community Hospital in Fairfax, Missouri, having reached the age of 93 years, 5 months, and 19 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Carlene Hensley, brother and sister-in-law Buck and Linda Jones, and granddaughter Samantha Kerwin.

Those left to mourn are his wife, Peggy; his three sons Rick (Becky), Kevin, and Terry (Hannah); 10 grandchildren: Tracy, Jason, Tawni, J.D., Travis, Summer, Rachel, Graycen, Griffin, Finnlee; many great-grandchildren; sister Veneta Nincehelser; sister- and brother-in-law Tina and (Ed) McCorkle; other relatives and many friends.

A funeral service was held Monday, December 9, 2024, at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn, officiated by Rev. Jackie Gfeller. Serving as pall bearers were JD Jones, Travis Jones, Jason Jones, Tracy Jones, Harvey Hurst, and Luke Andrew.
