CARLA JEAN MASON

CARLA JEAN MASON

1963-2024

Carla Jean Mason, 61, of Auburn Nebraska, formerly of Rock Port, Missouri, was born to Carl Eugene Kerr and Frances (Curry) Kerr on February 6, 1963, at Fairfax hospital, Fairfax, Missouri. She attended Rock Port High School and graduated in 1981. Carla was a diligent worker from a young age as she began working with her father in his restaurant at the age of 9 and continued to launch many of her own businesses throughout her life. She attended Floral School and opened Flowers Plus in Rock Port and, later with Rory, Balloons Plus in Auburn. After obtaining her Real Estate license in 1993, she later established The American Dream Real Estate Company in 1995. She also took on the role of manager of the Auburn State Theater in 2011 and helped lead a community-wide fundraiser to keep the theater in business under the school district’s ownership. Always the entrepreneur, she continued to broker The American Dream Real Estate Company, manage her own, and others’ rental properties, and manage the State Theater until her last day.

Carla took great pride in her family. She was united in marriage to the love of her life Rory Mason on August 8, 1987, at St Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn, Nebraska. To this marriage 2 children were born, Sara and Derek. Carla was very involved with her children and granddaughter and could be found attending any and all activities they became involved in. She was very proud of both Sara and Derek as both were Valedictorian of their classes. As a devoted grandmother to Rylee, she spent every moment she could with her granddaughter and became adept at making jewelry, primarily for Rylee, but also for many other loved ones in her life.

Carla was a fighter, she survived Stage 3 Inflammatory Breast Cancer while raising her children with Rory and battled Parkinson’s Disease for the last 11 years of her life. Despite her health challenges, she remained involved in the community, enjoying helping people find home ownership and being involved with the movie industry. Each summer, she enjoyed attending the EAA Air-Venture fly-in and spending time with her family at their vacation home at the Lake of the Ozarks. Carla was an excellent cook and expressed her love by preparing plenty of treats and large meals for her loved ones. Carla passed away Monday, December 30, 2024, at Nemaha County Hospital, Auburn.

Carla was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Whitney Kerr. She is survived by her husband, Rory; daughter, Sara, son, Derek; granddaughter, Rylee Jean Bos; siblings, Dennis (Jackie) Kerr and Kirby Kerr; nieces, Christina (Rick) Comstock, Jenny (Michael) Nguyen, Katie (Dylan) Johnson, and nephews, Zach (Christina) Kerr and Laszlo Kerr.
